Organizing your Photographs etc.

PREPARING YOUR PHOTOS, SLIDES  TO BE STORED ON VIDEO

Some Guidelines for a great video

Step 1: Layout Photos
Take all of your photo albums, framed photos, loose photos, slides, 8mm and VHS tapes or any other memories and documents and place them on a large table or a cleared area on the floor. Make enough room for two piles or stacks,

A "YES" stack and a "NO" stack. You will also need some manila folders or large envelopes.

Step 2: Sort Photos
Now, take a pencil and put a number on the back of each photograph you are going to use, Keeping in mind chronology.

The "NO" stack
All plain photos with not much personality
All duplicate photos and photos that do not say much.
All out of focus photos (unless there is no other choice).
All tiny (1" x 1") photos (unless there is not other choice).

The "YES" stack
All candid photos that show the character and personality of the people in your family. Shots where people are doing something positive and fun. Photos that cover most of the important moments that took place in your family's history, (Christmas, Easter, Parties, and Weddings etc...)
Remember to include a couple of photos from most every year of each family member's life, if possible. Remember not to overkill, only the highlights.

Step 3: Create Sections & Folders
Take everything you have in your "No Pile" and put it out of site. Now you will decide how many sections you would like for your video. Sections may include: Great Grandparents, Grandparents, Mom, Dad, First Born, Second Born, Family Reunions, Other Relatives, Close Friends, etc. It is not mandatory to put each section in chronological order. Now decide how many categories you wish to have and get out an equal number of folders or envelopes to put them in.
On each folder write:
                                                                              Example:

1 Write what section it is......................................Section 3

2 Write what person's full names are....................Sis / Jo Ann Nelson

3 Write the number of photos & slides there are...32 photos / 18 slides

4. Number all the photos in the folders...continue the numbers from folder to folder not starting over with 1 each time

5 Write the type of music or song wanted..............Music Lawrence Welk(Title)

6 Write special note of importance........................VHS clip of Jo Ann's Wedding Photos are in chronological order from top down.

Lay the folders out and begin putting your "YES1' photos on top of their preferred sections. You may find yourself removing a few more photos. (8 sections of 40 photos each = 320 photos). You can also arrange your video without sections, by putting all your memories together, close to chronological order.
